“Most of the time, they’re very thankful for the tips and tricks and the
little bit of time saving here and there, because all it does is it makes their
jobs and their lives easier,” he said. “Some of the experienced operators
will actually come back to me and say, ‘I wish someone had told me this
20 years ago.’”
Collup says it’s also good for experienced operators to get a
safety refresher.
“People do get complacent. When you have a job for 10, 15 or more
years and you do it day in, day out, sometimes seven days a week, you get
into a routine,” he said. “It’s important to have that safety piece brought
back into the forefront of our thoughts, because in a blink of an eye, bad
things can happen.”
Custom tailored programs
Collup says he will design his training program around each client’s wants
and needs.
“The first thing I’ll do is sit down with the management and talk about
what their goals are and what they’re wanting to get out of their people.
Then, we can then start to put a program together that best fits them,”
he said.
“We can do the full plate where we bring operators into the classroom
and go over all the applications of the equipment and also talk about safety.
After that, we’ll do walkaround inspections on the machines, teaching the
