and repair an additional 216 kilometres. Funding is targeted across
the system and includes major highways like Highway 11, north
of Davidson; and Highway 1, near Beverley. It also includes work
on less travelled highways like Highway 45, south of Outlook; and
Highway 376, between Maymont and Asquith.
Projects taking place under the Highways 2020 Plan will begin
this year and will continue over the two following years. We expect
crews to be out working on highways as soon as possible. Additional
projects will be added as we invest $20 million in surge funding in
each of the second and third years of the Highways 2020 Plan.
TB: What does MHI see as major priorities in infrastructure over the
next four years?
NH: As you can appreciate, there is no shortage of worthwhile proj-ects
as we work to overcome the billion-dollar infrastructure def-icit
our government inherited. Some specific short-term priorities
include:
• Completing the Regina Bypass
• Completing interchanges at Warman and Martensville
• Completing the Highways 2020 Plan
• Complete the twinning of Highway 39 from Estevan
to Bienfait, Highway 16 from Saskatoon to Clavet;
and Highway 7 from Saskatoon to Delisle
• Continuing to plan for future twinning and passing
lanes on Highways 6 and 39, as well as passing lanes
on Highway 5 between Saskatoon and Humboldt
