NEW OVERPASSES
Overpasses on the Way
Proposals for Highway 11 at Warman and Highway 12 at Martensville
evaluated, contract to be awarded later this year
By The Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure
The Government of Saskatche-wan
is currently reviewing pro-posals
to design and construct
two new overpasses north of Saskatoon,
Sask. on Highways 11 and 12.
“The two overpasses will improve safe-ty
and alleviate congestion in the growing
communities of Martensville and Warman,”
Highways and Infrastructure Minister
Nancy Heppner says. “We’ve undertaken
public consultations and finalized a func-tional
plan.”
With the rapid growth of both the City
of Warman and the City of Martensville,
the government decided to proceed with
plans to construct interchanges at both lo-cations.
Both structures will address safety
and economic development requirements
for the Highway 11 and 12 corridors north
of Saskatoon. Work is anticipated to start
in 2016 and be completed in 2019.
“This represents the first phase in ad-dressing
the larger transportation infra-structure
needs in the Saskatoon region,”
she says.
With traffic volumes in the range of about
14,000 vehicles per day, a new interchange
on Highway 12 at Martensville will disperse
traffic along Main Street and Centennial
Drive, reducing congestion and providing
access to current and future development.
A second interchange will connect
Highway 11 with Highway 305 at Warman.
The traffic counts in the area are more than
14,000 vehicles per day. The project will en-sure
an opportunity for future road network
expansion while accommodating traffic
during construction.
“The approved functional design of the
new accesses to Martensville and Warman
were completed in consultation with the
surrounding municipalities as well as a se-ries
of public meetings in the fall of 2015,”
Minister Heppner says.
