to streamline some processes to make them as effective but less onerous
 on contractors.
On another note, I’ve always been big on building relationships and
went through similar things in the WHL with the Saskatoon Blades. I
served as governor of the Blades from 1992 until we sold the team in 2013.
We built a relationship with Saskatchewan Hockey and a couple of other
leagues. Instead of competing for players, we worked together and did
things based on what was best for the player, not what was best for our
team, because we were in the player development business. The way you do
that is by opening up trusting relationships and getting to know people, being
honest and sincere about what your goals are. Then you work together
to see if there is a way to move forward.
SHCA can build some relationships, strengthen some relationships and
smooth some relationships. Our industry deals with a lot of different organizations
 – cities, different departments, mining, rural municipalities,
etc. – those relationships are all important. That’s something I feel strongly
about and I think those trusting relationships are critical to being able to
move forward and make things better.
In your opinion, what is the single greatest benefit
 of belonging to SHCA?
It would be having the chance to influence changes and to be part of the
voice that speaks on behalf of the industry. You should be a part of it. Do
you want to just sit back?
