SHANTEL LIPP, PRESIDENT, SHCA
Hitting Goals and
Reaching Higher
If the Earth moved, it was us! With
Saskatchewan’s economic climate
continuing to flourish, there is no
better declaration.
Profile, presence and impact: these will
continue to be the pillars of our success
in 2016. Over the course of 2015, the Saskatchewan
Heavy Construction Association
(SHCA) achieved many accomplishments.
We continue to strengthen our relationship
with the provincial government
through a variety of year-round activities.
We once again participated in the provincial
pre-budget consultations and lobbied
for government to maintain funding for infrastructure
at the current level and guarantee
that commitment for a minimum of
five years.
We had direct input on the legislative
changes to the Highway and Transportation
Act and were present in the legislature
for the first reading of Bill 188, The Best
Value Procurement Act. We will continue
to work with the Ministry of Highways
and Infrastructure, as well as Priority
Saskatchewan, on advancing the remaining
priority policies forward.
We have set bi-annual meetings with our
municipal partners and now have agreement
from the City of Regina to provide industry
with their five-year rolling capital
infrastructure investment program.
In January, the Board of Directors took a
360-degree view of the association’s impact
and began charting our plan for the future.
Our priorities for 2016 are to create a progressive
association-funding model, continue
to grow membership, research and
create valuable member services and programs,
and continue to improve our annual
Equipment Rental Rate Guide & Membership
Directory.
I’m very proud of the contributions we
have made over the past year to improve
the credibility, reputation and respect I believe
comes to our association and industry
by extension of the work we do. I know
we’re not done. There are still gaps in public
policy and as the budgets and projects
grow, so will our challenges.
I look forward to providing you with continual
updates on our success and I wish
you all a successful and safe 2016 construction
season!
