What a Party!
The 2015 SHCA Fall Convention capped off
another successful season of heavy construction
For two action-packed days in November, our members
came together to learn, laugh and network
with friends and clients, old and new.
In Regina, Sask. from Nov. 19 to 20, members, speakers and
industry leaders gathered for the 2015 SHCA Fall Convention.
Kicking it all off was the engaging and funny Ryan Walter,
former NHL player and coach turned inspirational speaker.
While passing around his 1986 Stanley Cup ring from his win
with the Montreal Canadiens, Walter honed in on the qualities
and habits that make any team – whether they’re building a
highway or playing hockey – successful.
Thursday’s speakers engaged attendees on many topics including
construction contract surety, estate planning and retirement
and the benefits of public infrastructure. Also that
afternoon, the first of two sessions led by Alexander (Sandy)
Brown, P. Eng., the technical director of the Ontario Hot Mix
Producers Association, was packed as attendees explored mix
design, and their influence on compaction.
That night, clad in camo and cargo pants, SHCA’s friends
and members gathered at the Minister’s Banquet and
Charity Auction, in support of the Canadian Cancer Society,
Saskatchewan Division. With the help of the talented staff
of Richie Bros. Auctioneers, our generous crowd helped us
raise $24,950 to help those fighting the disease and support
their families right here in the province. Wrapping up the
night with our Moonshine and Mallards mixer, guests mingled
amid some healthy competition at the arcade and carnival
games.
