The Workers’ Compensation
Board and Saskatchewan
Employers
Is the environment unfavourable to employers?
By Tracy Slywka, Injury Solutions Canada
Have you ever received a workers’ compensation claim
as an employer that you may not have completely
agreed with but had a difficult time obtaining a file
copy in order to appeal?
In all honesty, the current climate for employers in Saskatchewan
surrounding workers’ compensation is frustration and anger – employers
are frustrated with their interactions with the Saskatchewan
Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB), and many feel powerless
when dealing with a workers’ compensation claim.
To the detriment of employers, the WCB changed their process
in terms of how much – or how little – information employers receive
when the employer does not agree with a decision regarding
a claim. It appears to be the perspective of the WCB that employers
receive proper and timely correspondence each time a claim decision
is made, but in reality, this does not often occur. In working
with Saskatchewan employers, Injury Solutions Canada has found
that most employers are left in the dark when it comes to claim files
due to a lack of correspondence and communication.
