shape and can be made in various thick-nesses
to provide the specific stability that
is required for each project.
Prior to installation, an engineering anal-ysis
is conducted to see how much water
is flowing and how fast it is travelling in a
channel. This determines what size the
blocks should be.
According to Matt McArthur, IECS’s sales
director for Western Canada, the mats are
typically paired up with a geotextile fabric
underlay that’s used to increase soil stabi-lization.
The result is an effective and du-rable
solution for remediating existing
erosion issues and preventing further dam-age
on waterways like drainage channels,
flood control dykes, water storage ponds
and wastewater lagoons.
“Wherever water is generally flowing,
you need some sort of erosion control mea-sure
to hold the ground in place and our
product does that,” said McArthur. “Losing
land is just not really an option in this day
and age with how expensive land is and
how hard it is to obtain it.”
McArthur says the pricing of Cable
Concrete is competitive compared to other
erosion control methods.
“One of the main reasons why is that
we’re a direct manufacturer and supplier –
we don’t go through a distribution chain,”
he said.
An articulated block system can also be
installed quickly, ensuring contract com-pletion
within tight timelines, McArthur
says, adding that Concrete Cable will stand
the test of time.
“It’s all connected so it’s very stable,” he
said. “You lock the cables together as you
go down your waterway, which creates one
uniform piece.”
To back up its claim that Cable Concrete
is among the most advanced engineering
MEMBER PROFILE
“We want to be as locally involved in the province as
we can and joining the local construction association
is usually a good start. We’ve done that in many
other provinces we’ve worked in, so it seemed like
a no-brainer for us to do this in Saskatchewan.”
