HR DEPARTMENT
talk about your policy at tailgate safety
or management meetings. Post your pol-icy
in the shop, share a story of your ex-perience
or any number of things. Start
the conversation by having a training ses-sion.
It takes more than one training ses-sion
to change behaviours, so set personal
and organizational objectives after the
training and be accountable to those ob-jectives.

Look around your shop; is it re-flective
of a harassment-free workplace?
Take any inappropriate posters off the

organizational functions that expose ev-eryone
to different cultures, religions and
ethnicities. Often we make fun of things
we don’t understand, so increase the un-derstanding.
Make sure your leadership
talks about harassment and a safe work-place.
Have the conversation about what
it looks like and challenge yourselves.
Make sure the leadership is modeling the
behaviour you want from the workers.
Start or elevate the conversation
around harassment. Eliminating harass-ment
is another way that the heavy con-struction
industry can create a safer
workplace.
