Dodge Data & Analytics
Dodge Data & Analytics recently bench-marked
the current state of capital project
delivery performance and found a statisti-cally
significant correlation between use
of Lean methods and better project out-comes.
High Lean intensity projects were
three times more likely to complete ahead
of schedule and two times more likely to
complete under budget.
To establish a benchmark, 81 own-ers
responded to Dodge Data &
Analytics’ Owner Satisfaction & Project
Performance survey by answering ques-tions
about their perceived best proj-ect
and a typical project in the last three
years – providing data on schedule, bud-get,
quality and safety performance as
well as information on how the proj-ect
team was organized, the commercial
terms for the project and the manage-ment
methods used.
On schedule and cost performance,
which owners cite as most valuable,
Dodge found that 24 per cent of best proj-ects
finished ahead of schedule compared
to only six per cent of typical projects,
and 46 per cent of best projects finished
under budget compared to only 10 per
cent of typical projects. A staggering 61
per cent of typical projects finished be-hind
schedule and 49 per cent of typical
projects were completed over budget.
