the flow of water between existing and fu-ture
lagoons.
KPCL has also been taking part in a ma-jor
project at PotashCorp’s Lanigan site
since 2014, with the final phases expect-ed
to be completed in 2019. The work con-sists
of approximately 7.6 kilometres of new
dykes, a 4.5-kilometre slurry wall installa-tion,
700 hectares of topsoil stripping, hy-draulic
structures and a storm water pond.
Safety
To support safe production on these jobs,
KPCL boasts a fully integrated health, safety
and environmental (HSE) program, which
enables it to carry out business activities
with due consideration for the environ-ment,
while providing a safe and injury-free
workplace for its employees. The company
is consistently monitoring and updating its
safety programs, policies and implementa-tion
to ensure everyone returns home safely
at the end of each shift.
“In the construction industry, safety is
a top priority,” said Panteluk. “Some of our
larger clients are a lot more innovative
when it comes to safety and when work-ing
with those clients, we have been able to
take what we’ve learned and apply these in-novations
across the company to continu-ally
improve our safety program.”
Panteluk says that each day on a job site
begins with a safety meeting. This is where
the company reviews the day’s work with
the employees to identify hazards associ-ated
with the work. Employees then work
together to identify and put controls in
place to reduce or eliminate these hazards.
