Dear Potential SHCA Member,
I want to personally thank you for expressing an interest in becoming
a member of the Saskatchewan Heavy Construction Association.
As a business owner or company representative, I realize that you
make difficult decisions every day on where to invest your company’s
dollars. As the voice of the heavy construction industry in
Saskatchewan, our association is tasked with ensuring we are recognized
by government and other buyers of heavy construction services
as having a key role in maintaining a strong economy.
At a time when resource revenues are at an all-time low, investing
in our provincial highway system becomes even more important.
Our infrastructure, moreover our highways in a land-locked province,
are the foundation of our economy and our quality of life. Good
highways allow for our commerce to be productive and competitive,
even in trying fiscal times.
I’m happy to report that SHCA was successful in lobbying for the
largest planned budget commitment made by the provincial government
of $2.7 billion dollars with an additional $70 million surge
over the next three years. In addition to our strong lobby voice, the
following is a list of the benefits we can provide to your organization.
The Equipment Rental Rate Guide and Membership Roster:
Each year, SHCA works together with equipment dealers, the
Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure as well as contractors
across the province to improve and refine the Rental Rate Guide.
This guide is recognized as the industry standard in Saskatchewan
and is used by hundreds of contractors, government, municipalities
and construction owners each year.
Current Tender Call and Tender Result Information: This service
is provided to SHCA members on a daily basis and includes 95
per cent of all the heavy civil projects tendered across the province
of Saskatchewan as well as Alberta and Manitoba.
Government Regulatory Updates: SHCA provides all current
members with updates on current government regulations,
specifications and legislative
changes affecting the industry.
We further participate on
the board of the Saskatchewan Common
Ground Alliance where we join the ranks of
the major crowns as well as major mining and development
companies. We currently also participate on the
Board of Directors for the Saskatchewan Centre of Excellence of
Transportation and Innovation at the University of Saskatchewan.
SHCA currently has several working sector groups, including:
End Product Specification/Paving Committee, Urban Committee,
Rural Committee, Sand and Gravel Committee, Bridge Sector Group
and Standard Practices Executive Committee.
Membership within SHCA automatically qualifies you as a member
of the Canadian Construction Association as well as the Western
Canadian Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association.
Members of both may register for the annual conferences as well
as education seminars and accreditations such as Gold Seal. Most
recently, SHCA through the Western Canadian Roadbuilders is involved
in the Trade Team West Initiative calling for long-term investment
to support Western Canada’s Trade Enhancing Infrastructure.
In addition, members receive monthly updates through the SHCA
Interchange, an e-newsletter that covers member profiles, SHCA
project news, government updates and recent collaborations.
SHCA holds two annual meetings a year – the Spring AGM and
Education Symposium and the Fall Convention and Trade Show.
The Fall Convention is a two-day event featuring a variety of business
and education sessions, capped off with two, fun-filled networking
