In 1966, Lorne Hooper had a simple idea for making roads saf-er.
He aimed to create a safer hazard delineation product than
the flare pot – a device full of kerosene with a burning wick –
and developed a flashing light fixed to a steel barricade. That same
year, Hooper founded Alberta Traffic Supply Ltd. in Edmonton,
which became the first flashing light barricade rental company in
Western Canada.
In the spirit of its founder, the company (rebranded as ATS Traffic
in 2016) spent the past 50 years leading the way in traffic safety. ATS
has 300 employees and locations in five provinces in Canada.
ATS has a branch in Saskatoon and a branch and production fa-cility
in Regina. It has been involved in major projects in the prov-ince
over the years, with recent ones including the Regina Bypass
project and the Warman (Highway 11) and Martinsville (Highway
12) Interchange.
