Since 2003, as part of a contract to pro-vide
ongoing site services and mainte-nance
at the mine, Points Athabasca
has been responsible for sourcing and
supplying people to fill ongoing tem-porary
and permanent positions there
– everything from labourers and skilled
tradespeople to administrative personnel
and management.
Local community participation was es-sential
for this contract, and as a result,
more than 90 per cent of these employees
have been Aboriginal.
In 2012, Points Athabasca was also
awarded a contract to complete the over-all
surface development of the Cigar Lake
Mine by constructing and commission-ing
ore load-out facilities, warehousing
buildings and a maintenance shop, bur-ied
and surface utilities installations or
upgrades and site services support. More
than 50 per cent of the workers for these
projects were from local First Nations
communities.
