Another big project IPEX was involved in was the up-grade
to the Regina wastewater treatment plant in 2016-17.
Upgrades to the plant were required to meet the Government
of Saskatchewan’s higher effluent standards. IPEX supplied
four km of (1,500mm) 60” PVC pressure pipe. Since December
2016, the plant has been operating and meeting the more strin-gent
environmental standards. McCormick said this project in-volved
IPEX manufacturing the biggest size of pipe it is capable
of making.
More recently, IPEX was involved in the creation of the new
water supply line from Buffalo Pound to Moose Jaw. The project
entailed replacing the existing 600mm (24”) diameter steel pipe
with a new 750mm (30”) diameter PVC pipe from Buffalo Pound
Water Treatment Plant to Moose Jaw’s northeast and high ser-vice
reservoirs – approximately 20 km in length. IPEX supplied
20 km of (750mm) 30” PVC pressure pipe. The new pipeline has
helped ensure a reliable potable water supply.
Besides working on new projects, the company also focuses
on rehabbing pipes. Many municipalities have old pipes with
an array of materials that have different failure rates. Many of
these municipalities are looking to make the change to PVC.
“Replacement is going on in all the bigger cities and smaller mu-nicipalities.
Most people are choosing to go plastic as the replace-ment
because of the longevity of the material,” McCormick said.
IPEX is focused on innovation in all the projects it tackles. It
has been critical for the company to allow the growth of thermo-plastic
piping by going “where no manufacturer has gone before.”

Examples of innovation are evident in the company’s System
XFR – the first ever PVC DWV product to meet strict building
code flame-and-smoke requirements for high-rise construction
and air plenums – and the complementing AquaRise domestic
water piping to four inches, which has given designers and in-stallers
a viable option to copper in these larger sizes.
On the municipal side, IPEX has stepped things up by mak-ing
the first 900 mm through 1,500 mm (36”-60”) solid wall PVC
pressure and sewer pipes in Canada.
Today, IPEX has a state-of-the-art R&D center located in
Oakville, Ont., where a dedicated team of researchers and inno-vation
managers continue seeking and developing new products.
Equally as important to the company as innovation,
McCormick noted, is a commitment to safety.
