high-performance engineered fiber for hot
mix asphalt. A fiber with 400,000 psi ten-sile
strength and micro-roots that anchor
themselves to the finished hot mix asphalt,
the aramid fiber provides resistance to
mitigate rutting during the summertime;
it does the opposite in the wintertime
by preventing shrinking. These qualities
make it an ideal technology for the ex-treme
temperatures that Saskatchewan
roads endure.
With two projects using Nilex’s ACE fi-ber
in asphalt completed in Saskatchewan,
Saskatchewan Highways and Infrastructure
will use the technology in the Highway 47
project near Melville in 2018.
Being a part of the evolution of technolo-gies
is one of the major reasons Jaboeuf has
been with Nilex since 1997.
“It is exciting to see how the new prod-ucts
can help contractors and owners build
in a more cost-effective, environmentally
sustainable manner,” he said. “It’s also very
satisfying to be involved with the projects
in Saskatchewan from their infancy.”
He says that Nilex doesn’t simply provide
products. The team works with engineers
and contractors to make sure that the so-lutions
are implemented correctly for opti-mal
efficacy.
Through Nilex’s involvement with
the Saskatchewan Heavy Construction
Association (SHCA), the team is able to net-work
with peers and participate with the
planning that SHCA does with the province.
“There’s no question that our involve-ment
with SHCA benefits us. It’s a vital re-source
for anyone working in the heavy
construction industry in Saskatchewan,”
said Jaboeuf.
With the proposed number of highway
and infrastructure projects, Jaboeuf antici-pates
that 2018 will be a busy year for Nilex
and says he looks forward to continuing
to introduce leading-edge solutions to the
Saskatchewan heavy construction industry.
“Nilex celebrated 40 years of success
in 2017,” he said. “The key to that suc-cess
is staying one step ahead and con-tinually
coming up with smarter, more
cost-effective ways to build.”
