NILEX IS BUILDING A GREEN LEGACY
A green trailblazer, Nilex has
been providing innovative,
environmentally sustainable
solutions to the construction industry in
Western Canada for more than 40 years.
Nilex offers clients engineered, tech-nically
advanced geosynthetic materials,
used in road building, mechanically sta-bilized
earth (MSE) solutions for grade
changes, erosion and sediment control, wa-ter
management and containment. Early
on, Nilex earned a reputation helping own-ers
and contractors find cost-effective and
environmentally sustainable ways of com-pleting
projects and extending the life of
infrastructure.
In 1977, founder Walter Van Woudenberg
brought cutting-edge technologies that
were popular in Europe to Canada and es-tablished
Nilex in Edmonton.
“The founder of Nilex was one of the pi-oneers
of green technologies in Western
Canada. From the outset, Nilex has al-ways
had an environmental focus,” said
Lee Jaboeuf, Nilex’s district manager of the
Saskatchewan and Manitoba regions.
Today, Nilex has offices in Edmonton,
Calgary, Vancouver, Regina, Saskatoon and
Toronto, as well as U.S. offices in Colorado
and Utah.
With a focus on civil, resource and en-vironmental
construction projects, Nilex
provides clients with customized solutions
that make projects greener and more cost-effective.
Nilex carries a comprehensive line
of innovative products for roadbuilding,
erosion and sediment control, water man-agement
and containment such as landfills
or tailings ponds.
Jaboeuf started out with Nilex in Alberta’s
oilpatch and later moved to Saskatoon
to establish a better regional presence in
Saskatchewan and Alberta. One project
that stands out from the early days is the
construction of the potash mine, BHP.
With geogrid materials, the construction
team built BHP on sloughs.
“When I arrived on site, there was a truck
hoe that was stuck in a slough right up to
the cab. The operator walked out of the cab
very eager to discuss solutions,” he said.
